GearBox Project
Summary:
Creating and animating this gearbox assembly in SolidWorks helped me understand how individual parts interact within a complete mechanical system. Beyond modeling each component, I learned how proper mates, alignment, and constraints are essential for achieving realistic motion and avoiding over-defined assemblies.
Working on the motion study showed me how design tolerances, gear alignment, and shaft positioning directly affect performance. Small errors in part geometry or mating choices became obvious once the assembly was animated, which reinforced the importance of accuracy and consistency when designing rotating systems.
This project also strengthened my understanding of how CAD assemblies translate into real mechanical behavior. Seeing the gearbox move as a system helped connect theoretical concepts like power transmission and rotational motion to practical design decisions, and gave me more confidence working with multi-part mechanical assemblies.
